Nestled between Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam is the country of Laos. Its original name was 'Lan Xang', the land of a million elephants. Laos is perhaps best known nowadays because of the Vietnam war, where the Ho Chi Minh Trail cut across the border with Vietnam and down into Cambodia, despite Laos' neutrality. Unquestionably the least developed of the three French colonies, one of the whole appeals of Laos is its laid back, quiet nature. Laos, especially Luang Prabang is one of those countries which is just a pleasure to be in. There are sights to see, but simply watching the world go by in Laos is itsel
