The Road to Eurovision ... and beyond!
About this blog
I am going back to my European roots and enjoying a fast paced retro style vacation that will see me arriving a few weeks prior to Eurovision and traveling around my favourite countries before living the dream and watching the final live in Oslo. This tacky event transcends boundaries and is presented with a sense of unbridled enthusiasm that is only read about in Billy Mumphrey stories.
This has been a holiday that has been in the making for many years whereby I have nerded up and studied European history, geography, language and food. That, along with the gaining of age and wisdom and the shedding of body fat should hopefully be enough to avoid any Eurodebacles. Rest assured if they occur you will read about them here! Should this Volcano cause any grief then I will find ways to work around it.
As is expected in POD travel blogs each place I go to will have a trivia link that is reflected in the title of each entry & based on the country I am in. I will be going to at least 16 cities in 9 countries including the UK, Scandinavia, France, Germany and surrounds. My journey will take me from the hustle and bustle of Paris to a small Bavarian town that performs a Passion Play every 10 years and onward to the beautiful midevil town of Brugge before hitting the dizzy heights of Stockholm and finishing off in the motherland. Along the way I will be visiting several UNESCO world heritage areas and various medium sized cities that aren't all on the standard tourist track.
For regular POD blog lovers there will be all the usual trivia links, observations, stories, special guests, Allan, stuff-ups and debacles that you've come to know and love as well as several entrants for the POD Towers of the World series which has a cult following all of its own. Newcomers may want to get acquainted with previous travel blogs so they get past jokes and trivia feedback loops which will be created as the trip progresses. So check back here every few days and receive my updates and share this journey with me.
