After a short school trip to Peru and Ecuador in 2006, I decided I wanted to volunteer somewhere, preferably far away from home!

I eventually heard about the Global Volunteer Network, and signed up for their South Africa program - still not sure how I persuaded my parents to let me go alone! I am set to travel to the Klipkop Wildlife Sanctuary for the month of July.

I will be working on maintenance of the sanctuary, wildlife conservation (anti-poaching, game counts, etc.), and even helping to put out brush fires. Some learning opportunities will be included too, such as game tracking.

Weekends will be spent traveling around South Africa with other volunteers, hopefully including a safari in the world-famous Kruger National Park!
