India--An Emotional Roller Coaster Ride
About this blog
I went to Northern India to volunteer in a rural village about 30 minutes outside of Hoshiarpur, Punjab. I thought that I would be working on women's empowerment and environmental projects with many other interns. However, I ended up getting shipped off to another village with only one other intern, and told that I was to set up a language school. My internship was to be for 3 months, and I wanted to extend my visa and internship so that I could focus on what I actually came to India to do, which was women's empowerment and environmental initiatives. But after a series of very bad experiences, and then getting extremely sick with a parasite, I decided to leave when my visa expired. That said, there were moments when I loved India, and moments when I hated it too. India is definitely a land of extremes, and hopefully I can capture some of those here.
