Eurasia 2007: Five Months Overland From Germany to Hong Kong
About this blog
My 2007 trip was built around a 12 week Overland truck trip with Dragoman from Saint Petersburg to Beijing through Russia, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia. In 2006 I did a similar 4 month long trip with Dragoman from London to Beijing via Turkey, the Caucasus, the Central Asian "Stans", and all the way across China. I had the time of my life and was ready for more.
Dragoman's trip evaluation form asked, among other things, "Where else would you like to see Dragoman travel", to which I responded Russia and Mongolia. By coincidence, but in what seemed almost like an ask and you shall receive scenario, an exploratory inaugural trip to Russia and Mongolia for April - July 2007 appeared several months later on the company website. I believe I was one of the first to sign up.
I decided to tack on some additional independent travel on both sides of the Overland expedition, including about 6 weeks in Europe from Germany to Saint Petersburg through Poland and the Baltics at the beginning and 5 weeks through Eastern China from Beijing to Hong Kong at the end. Overall it was about as varied a travel experience as one could ask for.
I am posting this blog several years after the fact. It was on a different travel blog site that is no longer operational but the trip was an experience which deserves to be published.
