Turkey - October 2011 - Asia, finally
About this blog
Why Turkey? Friends of ours had visited some years ago and were so impressed that we just couldn't wait to visit also. Plus the fact that we had never been to Asia!
"Are you crazy?" "Are you sure it's safe?" "A car bomb just went off in Ankara!"
In spite of dire predictions from some, we are more determined than ever to visit what many here consider an exotic destination, but what Europeans merely see as cheap tour package destination. Air fares are high. What's all this about recession? On investigation we find we are paying almost as much in taxes as in actual fares. "Where's the Tea Party?"
We will go via Madrid to pick up Bryan, our son, then continue to Istanbul with him in tow. Total fare is US$ 1,035.00 from Miami. Our budget, as usual, is limited to US$ 150.00 per person per day, including all transportation, accommodation, sightseeing, food and beverage. We'll spend a total of 15 days, not including transatlantic travel days.
