About this blog

One year around the world, turned into 16 months around the world!! After several years of working hard at uni and working hard in the real world, I had enough of conforming and was becoming increasingly desperate to to jack it all in and backpack my way around the world. So after turning 30, I did just that!

I wanted to experience as many vastly different places, people and lifestyles as I could, while I have the chance - so far I have tried my hand at teaching children in Tanzania, worked on a game reserve in South Africa, backpacked around South East Asia, gone back to school in Buenos Aires, travelled through South America, volunteered on the Galapagos Islands, and called in as many favours as possible for couches to crash on ...

Now, I may have been called High Maintenance in the past (it's hardly my fault if people want to carry my bags for me is it?!) and yes I used to love my creature comforts, high heels and my mascara, so it wasn't easy to leave everything behind, especially my shoe collection. And I had a perfectly good life, with a decent job and fantastic friends and family. But it wasn't enough, and that stuff isn't important anymore. I can honestly say that I am the happiest I have ever been living out of my backpack (which I carry myself on my own back!!), with only a pair of flip flops and hiking boots, staying in $5 a night hostels.

I set this blog to up share all my experiences with friends and family, and hopefully to give others on the same path, or thinking about it, some useful information. If nothing else you can laugh at the things that go wrong along the way! Please rate my blog and subscribe if you enjoy reading it :)
