Gawdy Goudi Day
About this blog
I decided to have a gawdy Goudi day, ok ok I didn't really dress 'gawdy' but I thought the title was catchy. Today we went to see Antoni Gaudi, a modernistic architecturer regarded as one of the the finest! His work peeked in 1888-1908. Sagrada Familia, was started in 1908 and was built from his extremely strong religious belief that the structure would redeem Barcelona from it's sins of secularism...OK so I only saw the outside of this fantastic building because the line wrapped around the building and in the hot humid mid day heat...we decided to return again much earlier...We did however see the Casa Baltllo which Gaudi remodeled in 1905. His influence was that of the carnivals and has a harlequin-hat roof, reptilian looking scales on the interior walls and scales. The windows were smaller on the top and got increasingly bigger as they went down to balance the light coming in. The hallway had interesting arches that looked like rib cages and had slits like scales for better ventilation. No wall had a straight line but was curved and moved to perhaps symbolize the the sea. It was magnificant.
