This travel journal documents my travels in Russia during the month of June 2006. Why Russia? My first interest began when I read Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment" and sprouted throughout my education in film studies graduate school. After experiencing a number of early Soviet films/writings and reading into the history of Russia I found the historical, political, and filmic history quite fascinating. Additionally, the unique relationship between the US and Russia in recent history has been a source of intrique. My goal for this trip is to enjoy and learn more about the culture, people, traditions, etc. to better understand complexities of Russia, as well as my own country and self.
