A European Gap Year

My personal message explains a little of what I'm about to start but to explain further... I'm currently in my gap year between school and Uni. I've decided to do it in Europe since there's so much culture to see (more, in my opinion, than where the typical "gap yearers" go - South America, Asia, etc). I'm doing it by train with a rail pass and so there's a definate flexibility - for this, I ask you all to suggest cities full of character which I could get to know over a period of a few weeks. Or at least know well enough to decide whether I'd like my internship there (have to do a year in industry as part of International Business course I'll be starting). So far I've been to Madrid...loved it but lots more to see!
