Last year I purchased a book: Lonely Planet's Southeast Asia On A Shoestring. For months I read of cultivated valleys, sunny islands, temperamental riverbeds, ruined temples in sweltering jungles and friendly people... so I sat patiently to land a sweet deal on a ticket, and found one in February. Bangkok as my launching pad, I researched the surrounding countries and settled on exploring Old Indochina. Vietnam aside for now, I opted for a visit to unassuming Laos, and its notorious neighbor, Cambodia.
