When my husband, Harvey, asked me if there was something that I wanted for my birthday, I responded that I would really like to go on this trek with Mountain Lodges of Peru. My wanderlust has had Machu Picchu on my mind for many years. Yet in some crazy sort of way, I wanted to trek there. It's all part of feeling that I can still do this sort of physical thing, but still have my creature comforts. And I acknowledge that I relished the idea of an alternative to the heavily trekked Inca Trail and camping.

We spent four nights in the Sacred Valley and three nights in Cusco getting used to the altitude. Then our lodge to lodge trek to Machu Picchu began with Mountain Lodges of Peru. It was truly an extraordinary once in a lifetime experience.
