About this blog

The adventures continue....Jonny goes to Korea to explore the culture and visit an old friend in Busan.

What are my thoughts about Korea having never been? Well, I've heard much about Korean culture, not all of it good, but enough to intrigue. The first thing I know about Korea is that the people are supposed to be quite conservative, hard working and possibly a little straight laced being the only 'Catholic state' in Asia.

I used to teach a group of Korean house wives in Malaysia, and I have to say they were far from conservative, and generally much fun. Although they did have some very odd ideas regarding fans (see Fan Death) and building houses on top of ground water (makes fruit decay faster...).

The other side of Korea is the technological advances they have made during the past 30 years. They have high speed trains, and I expect will be more advanced than the UK in a number of areas.

The culture/art side of Korea is something I know nothing about. I can only think it's some sort of mix between Chinese and Japanese, but probably more Chinese due to the animosity between Japan and Korea.

I wonder too how the Buddhist religion, so rooted in Korea before the spread of Christianity still prevails in the character of South Korea, and , in a country where the majority of people cite 'no religion', how this affects the country.

I'm also going to visit the saunas and karaoke (something bang?) bars. I'm sure with much hilarity.

We shall see, and I'll try to keep you informed with lovely pictures.

Enjoy Jonny
