In local Lepcha language Tendong means raised horn. Legend says that the Tendong Hill saved the local people once when the whole world was flooded by giving them shelter on top. Historically this has been one favorite places for Buddhist Lamas for meditation due to the serenity and tranquility of the place.
The hill is surrounded by the lash green ancient forest. During spring one can see the bright blooms of rhododendrons, cream magnolias and wild orchids in this moss-laden forest. The panoramic view from the hill top is breathtaking and on a bright sunny day it is possible to view the magnificent Kangchendzonga, Singalila Range and the plains of Bengal from there.
