Egypt: Cairo, up the Nile, to Luxor, Aswan, and Abu Simbel
About this blog
What kid hasn't dreamed of going to Egypt to see the pyramids and the sphinx? One of my favorite books growing up was Sir Richard Halliburton's "Book of Marvels." I was particularly fascinated by the pyramids and ancient Egyptian civilization. That led to reading about Howard Carter and the discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
So I finally decided to go. In my previous journies, I have always preferred to travel independently, but opted to go on an escorted tour since Egypt is difficult to do on one's own. I was also constrained by the amount of time that I could take off work. If I had it to do over again, I would take more time to see some of the other temples and visit Petra in Jordan.
