A final excursion to discovery with a major detour toward endurance.

About this blog

Well, the journey ended; shortened by age & weariness. Pico Ayer wrote that travel is like a love affair. Each starts with great passion & excitment. But some end in disappointment & divorce. Brenda was right! I bit off more of India than I could chew. Chekov on Gooseberries: "They were hard & sour, but as Pushkin has it: The falsehood that exalts we cherish more than the meaner truths that are a thousand strong". I could have ended this blog with stories about forts, palaces & temples; but chose instead an intimate motif: people, religion and travel, itself. My apologies to readers, bored or confused by some entries. My journey was detoured by those sagacious companions: Nabokov, Shakespeare, Conrad, Joyce, Chekov, Hemingway, et al.
