Hullo All!
'Good summer planned? Well I'm off to South America...'
(In their Winter. Smart move, Elliott.)
Welcome to the epic odyssean journey that is my second gap year, cunningly nicknamed 'Gap Yarr', in the hope that it will imbue me with some piratical skills. After all, I do need SOME vocational training at some point this lifetime...
This is my chance to see the world, have an epic blowout, and an all-round outstanding time before I return to academic life next year. As some of you will know, I'll be studying for an MPhil in Political Theory; and in many respects, this journey is a chance to learn, interact, and understand why people in other parts of the world have such bizarre political preferences. Yeah, so I guess I'll be trying to get into the mindframe of the average Sarah Palin supporter in the States.
The journey will be a long one; a mix of rational travelling (through South America - starting of in southern Brazil, sweeping through Rio, Sao Paulo, into Argentina, up the Chilean coast and into Bolivia and Peru) and the completely insane (hopping around the USA, through the South, to Vancouver in Canada, over to New England, and into the Nevada Desert for a spectacular finale at Burning Man Festival). It will be incredible, and fun; and although I'm looking forward to going alone, I am very much looking forward to sharing it with you all. I can't promise that my updates will be regular, or totally accurate, or short; I can only promise that they will be entertaining (!)
Love to you all,
Richard
(p.s. For those of you doing exams - massive apologies in advance for any cheeriness over what should quite rightly be a season of anti-happiness. At least until one's own exams are done. I will not be offended at all if you guys choose to ignore my updates for the duration of exam term. Better that, than sending me hate mail and procrastination-letter bombs (but I'll be out of the country, suckers!))
