ICELAND, MALI, DAKAR, SPAIN & FRANCE- Misadventures in Europe and Africa
About this blog
Ever had a trip where everything went wrong? You're not the only one. That's part of the risk of traveling independently; you have to make it all up as you go along, at least somewhat. But that's part of the adventure, isn't it? You have to roll with the punches and polish those snafus into brilliant mistakes.
This is part of my growing interest in world music, attending a music festival in Africa. Africa in general, and Mali in particular, are at the top of that list. I've been a big fan of the Tuareg group Tinariwen for a year or so now, so that's a big draw for the 'Festival du Desert', which is occurring about... tomorrow or so. So I've settled for a more mainstream festival at Segou, while holding out hope for a desert fest elsewhere, they all based on traditional desert powwows in the lower Sahara. Africa is a continent which I've yet to truly 'do', so it should be interesting regardless.
