My fascination with Morocco started after taking a class on the history of Spain. I remember the events that changed the lives of my ancestors and a group of Muslims occupying southern Spain called the Moors. When the last Muslim stronghold was defeated in Granada, the Moors were told to convert to Christianity or leave Spain. So the Moors left for Morocco. Unlike the Moors who went to their place of origin in northern Africa, my Indio ancestors were already living in their land. When the Spanish arrived in the Americas, the Indios had no place to go and had to convert to Christianity. So there you have it. I am off to meet the Arab descendents of the Moors in Morocco. I can't wait to hear their stories!
