Volunteering in Nepal 2009
About this blog
After my visit to the Annapurna Region in Nepal last year, I realised that I'd left a piece of myself in this beautiful part of the world. So much so, that as soon as I returned home to Sydney I started planning for a return trip.
I registered myself with a company called Volunteer Nepal and was lucky enough to spend a week at a girls orphanage in Kathmandu followed by a 3 week stay at the Guarishankar Boys Home in the small hillside village of Mati, Charikot (in the Dolakha District).
Spending time with these kids is the most rewarding experience ever...being around them makes me see life in a different light and gives me a perspective that I would never otherwise see.
Each and everyone of the children I met are special...and each and everyone deserves the chance to live their childhood as children - with the opportunity to laugh, to play, to learn, to be free and to live a life without fear! Thanks to the hard work of people like Michael Hess, founder of Volunteer Nepal this is true for the children at Papa's House.
I'm so grateful to all the staff, other volunteers and especially the children who made my 4 weeks of volunteering one of the best things I've ever done.
If anyone would like a volunteer experience in Nepal, I would strongly recommend www.volunteernepal.com for opportunities from teaching to building schools to helping in hospitals etc.
There is no shortage of opportunites to help in Nepal and I guarantee that if you do it, you will have the experience of a lifetime.
