About this blog

When the poet Pablo Neruda gave his Nobel Prize speech in 1971, he described a harrowing journey he had to take in 1949 to escape his native Chile because the government wanted him arrested and probably killed since he was a senator from the Communist party. With much help and a lot of secrecy he crossed the Andes into Argentina on horseback. Now, I'm going in his and his horse's footsteps, only this time, I hope no government will be hunting me. But ya never know... Expect stunning wilderness, moving poetry, and encounters with Neruda's closet living acquaintances and those who loved or hated him.
