Eastern Europe by Bike 2012 : Berlin to Istanbul

My itinerary is to bike from Berlin to Istanbul and go through 10 countries en route. I plan on carrying very little what can fit into a small backpack and a waterproof 12 liter rear carrier. I plan to meet my beautiful wife, and two dear friends, at 3 locations along my journey. It has been 9 years since I have taken on a physical challenge like this. However I know the biggest challenge is the mental aspect.

Unlike 2003 I am going into this from a completely different mind/body set. Back then, though I did have serious back issues, I was in fairly good shape over all except very little bike training. This time my body seizes up quicker than a computer running Windows ME. That being said I bike a lot and do a lot of spin classes. Plus this challenge is much longer and in the Summer heat (I hate the heat).

I hope to keep updating this on a regular basis once the trip starts - but we shall see.
