Haiti in the aftermath of the 2008 hurricanes: Disaster Junkie volunteering & traveling

About this blog

Winter in the Caribbean sounds lovely, doesn't it? I'm not expecting many beaches or piņa coladas, but I am excited for the next two months in Haiti. I start by joining Hands On Disaster Response for Project Gonaīves www.hodr.org

My first brief taste of disaster relief volunteer work in Koh Phi Phi Thailand after the Tsunami led to an extended stay in New Orleans post-Katrina. That spring transformed my life and worldview, plus introduced me to some amazing friends. Ever since, I've been craving that immediate, rewarding work experience shared with fellow disaster junkies. I rejoin that path in Haiti, helping Gonaīves dig out from 4 storms and a mountain of mud.

This trip blog will then chronicles my travels before, during, and after my Master of Disaster Management studies at the University of Copenhagen, both in response to and in creation of further disasters.

  • And I'm off...
  • A little too quick and very dirty
