Andalucía, Spain 2011

About this blog

3 lovely weeks in Andalucía...

Took 7 days of private Spanish tutoring in Sevilla and then drove around Andalucia in a rental car, enjoying the mountain scenery and visiting many white villages. I loved the moor influences that were visible everywhere, and I also adored the food. The Spaniards in this region are very mellow, it felt super safe even in the cities.

During the first week my friend Mario visited Sevilla as well, and during the third week my friend Ilja joined me.

By the way, do not try to copy this itinerary! For various reasons it ended up being a not so practical itinerary, but I enjoyed it a lot.

TIPS:

* Don't stick to just the cities, but rent a car and visit the white villages (pueblos blancos).

* Siesta is still predominant in Andalucia. All shops close between 2pm and 5pm; a lot of restaurants are closed from 3pm to 9pm. Most other things also close down, although some museums remain open. You can use siesta time to take a siesta yourself, or to drive from one place to the next if you have a car with air conditioning.

* Evening meals are eaten after 9pm and most restaurants don't open until that time. If your stomach needs food before that time, make sure you have some snacks from a shop.

* In Granada you get big portions of tapas for free with every drink. Buy a few drinks and you might not even need to go out for dinner. In other places the free tapa may consist of small portions of cheese or some nuts.

* Dutch people (and perhaps others) can rent cars for very low prices through www.123carrent.com. Most of the cheapest deals come from Aurigacrown rental company. Note: they take ONLY creditcards for payment, no debit cards, and no cash either.
