This is my Colombia travel blog! Stories, tips and photos are in the entries below.

At last I could make my dream come true of travelling through Colombia. Ever since 1997 I've only ever heard lyrical stories in hyperboles from travellers who've been to this country-with-a-bad-reputation. "My favourite country of the entire continent", "so beautiful", "extremely nice people" and such.

Of course a lot of negative stories are also out there and part of them true, but apart from the big cities I felt very safe there.

Many flights from Amsterdam to Bogotá go through New York City, where I'd never been before either, so I decided to start with 5 days in NYC! And then travel through Colombia for almost 5 weeks. My friend Fedra joined me for the last 3 weeks.

I would not say it's my *favourite* country in all of Latin America (I 'd sooner recommend Nicaragua, Brazil or Bolivia) but I had a great time and a lovely holiday!

COLOMBIA =.....

... amazing nature and wildlife (mountains, lakes, jungles, deserts, birds and other animals)

...hot springs and coffee plantations

...not that cheap

...sunny, friendly people

...overwhelming and bustling cities

...sleepy towns with cowboys

...Caribbean north with different music and food and people

...hard to find good food

...diversity! (in weather, culture, scenery)
