Carolallan's Great Adventure
About this blog
We left Wishon a day early and in a hurry; it was snowing hard! We were afraid we wouldn't be able to get out. So our trip officially started on May 22. We spent a few days in California de-stressing and reorganizing since things were pretty much thrown into the truck and toy hauler. We stayed at a little resort called Lake of the Springs in Oregon House.
Our next adventure led us to some friends, Jimmy (Old Partner!) & Jackie, just outside of Medford Oregon in Shady Cove. We did party hearty and had a grand time. Thanks you guys!
Thursday, May 27, brought us into Florence Oregon. We couldn't wait to ride the dunes. We went for an hour ride that was just crazy fabulous. We went down some steep slopes....the biggest one was 395'.....straight down! And our driver enhanced it by balancing just on the edge for a while before riding down. He got up to 60 mph over the dunes. I had a few screams in me that got out. I was warned though that it might be at a time where I might get a little sand in my mouth. I did! We were actually covered head to toe by the time we finished. We loved it!
Then friends there, Big John & Pam, showed us around. We went kayaking on the Siltcoos Lake to the river that went out to the ocean. Beautiful! No, we didn't make it to the ocean. We would have had to portage our kayaks....the water was really high & it would have been quite tricky. We were happy to make it as far as we did.
Karen & Judd joined us for a few days. More partying! Yikes. Big John became our tour guide again and we were turned on to some pretty fabulous sites. Just north of Florence, Big John brought us to a huge arena of Darlingtonia's....aka....man eating, just kidding, insect eating plants also called the Cobra-lily. Amazing!!
We moved onto beaches where the rivers deposited amazing amounts of beautiful rocks. There were tide pools that were full of surprises. On to Cape Perpetua where we explored high & low. We hiked to the largest spruce in the world (we think we remember that one correctly) which was 15' in diameter. Thanks Big John!
Unfortunately the rain that night was pretty substantial and drove Karen & Judd back to California in the morning. It was fun with you guys!
Our next stop was just south of Newport Oregon, South City in a great resort called Whaler's Rest. We pulled onto a nice gravel area (we had lots of mud in Florence). With the rains right now it is really nice to have an indoor pool and jacuzzi.
More to come!
