Rick & Lynn's 2011 E Africa - Italy Malta Holland Tanzania Kenya Burundi Rwanda Congo Belgium France

About this blog

It's taken us 15 years to get this trip organized. We're off to do a Rwandan Mountain Gorilla Trek (including dropping some of my textbooks for the Kigali Health Institute), a Serengeti Safari (with a day in the Ngorongoro Crater and a visit to the Olduvai Gorge), an overnight stay at the Treetops Lodge in Kenya (including a visit to Lord Baden Powell's Paxtu home where the founder of the Boy Scouts lived his last days), a night at Nairobi's Giraffe Manor, a visit to the 2 orphan elephants we are sponsoring at the Sheldrick Trust (which includes putting them to bed one evening), 3 days on the Mediterranean island nation of Malta, the Roman Catacombs and the ruins of the ancient seaport Ostia Antica, a couple of surprises for us (we stopped in Bujumbura, Burundi and did a quick tour of the lava filled streets of Goma in the Congo), the Bayeux Tapestry, the Beauvais Cathedral, Mont St. Michel in France, and finishing with one of my favorites, Dvorak's 8th symphony by the Nederlands Philharmonisch in their acoustically perfect Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. All in all, another great trip.
