It's not enough that I like to travel. I like to talk about it too. And I like to persuade everybody within listening range that they ought to shift into GO-mode along with me.

"I don't have enough money to travel," some folks whine. "I don't have enough time," is another tired refrain. "Maybe when I retire."

Peacock feathers! Everybody has enough time, and enough money, to go at least a hundred miles. And there's no better time than today. Take the kids! Take the dog! Take Grandma. Or go by yourself. Just GO.

For two years I wrote a weekly travel column for the newspaper. Every Friday I focused on what was here, or there, easy to get to and suitable even for the timid.

Go with me? That was the nudge. I'll see you there, I said.
