Cape Town to Cairo, my equatorial journey. South Africa, penguins, Cape of Good Hope, Indian Ocean. Kenya, game rides, elephants, Karen Blixen's. Egypt, camels, the sleeping Sphinx, cruising the Nile.
About this blog
Manuel taught us, on the trip to Antarctica, about the penguins Vasco de Gama saw in South Africa. So, I'll begin there. The Cape of Good Hope, the place where Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Cape Town, one of the loveliest settings in the world for a city. Wine country. Then north to Kenya, smack dab on the equator, where large animals still roam; where I shall roam amongst them, via some kind of road trekker, camera in hand. Shades of Kilamanjaro! I won't climb it, but I'll look. Karen Blixen's farm for lunch; a dream come true. And then, Egypt, land of the Pharoahs, ancient history, ancient times, cruise the Nile and look for Moses hiding in the reeds. Will I dare to ride a camel? Time to study King Tut, and get a broad-brimmed hat.
