Trafalgar is not just a square in London!

About this blog

Here we go again. Europe but this time no home exchanges. Three months living out of a suitcase courtesy TRAFALGAR tours and our relatives in the UK. Much planning went into our complicated itinerary. Much of it was organised by Flight Centre with regards to flights and tours whilst we did the in between accommodation and transport bits over the internet. The hardest part was obtaining Russian visas which involved using a third party to obtain for us the special 'invitation to Russia' document.

However, the TRAFALGAR group decided to cancel our selected tours. We could not change our flight schedule so we had to move all dates ahead by 7 days and book a week in Denmark...a bonus if you like albeit an expensive one. Hopefully TRAFALGAR will give us some credit for the inconvenience but we will try that one on our return. To add to our trepidations a volcano in Iceland started pumping ash over Europe a week before we were due to leave which caused a shut down on all flying over the continent. Fortunately the skies cleared just a couple of days before our scheduled departure but I do feel sorry for those passengers stranded in Europe or those Aussies who were trying to get there. Surprisingly nobody offered us a large sum of money for our seats. The consensus after the event was that the authorities had been guilty of overkill on the no-fly zone.

We picked up our flight tickets and TRAFALGAR vouchers from Michelle at the Flight Centre and printed out all our hotel.com vouchers from the net. No longer are flight tickets issued in that 20th century format. All that is required at check in these days is your passport as a means of identity. Even the printed itinerary provided is barely glanced at.

On Saturday night we were invited to a farewell dinner at Naranga Avenue. All were in attendance except Chris who was visiting Samantha on the Gold Coast and Wally who was hosting a party for a virus that had overstayed its welcome.
