Oxford Canal boat trip

About this blog

Life definitely switches down a gear on a canal holiday, and travelling at an average speed of around 4mph on a 25 tonne steel boat, you don't exactly make waves! But that's arguably one of the best parts about taking a journey on a canal boat - you get to explore every inch of your route in detail. You get to dig out the hidden and long-forgotten roots of Britain, and reveal a gateway into a different world.

Our seven day trip from Napton Junction on the Grand Union Canal, down the Oxford Canal, as far as we can, and back. We picked up the 'Wild Lavender" from Calcutt Boats and after a 10 minute shakedown and 1 lock, he let us go alone... It was 4pm on Friday and we had to be back here at 9am next Friday.
