Fulfilling one of my lifelong dreams that I've had for a couple of months, I'm off to Cambodia for a week mainly to visit Angkor Wat. I'll also spend a couple of days in Phnom Penh.
About this blog
With the discount airline Air-Asia starting a flight from Bangkok to Phnom Penh for US$85 round trip, I decided it was high time for me to finally visit Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Since Angkor Wat is near Siem Reap, I will still have to take a long bus ride from Phnom Penh to get there, but, well, that's as good as it gets for now. A direct (one-hour) flight to Siem Reap from Bangkok costs an outrageous US$300 due to a tourism-killing monopoly.
As part of my planning for the trip, I have been corresponding for several weeks with the owner of the guesthouse at which I plan to stay in Siem Reap. This guy is a very knowlegable-about-Cambodia American married to a Thai lady. He also maintains an informative website about Asia: talesofasia.com
