My wife Leslie and I first went on a cruise in 1994. We had a great time, but in the back of my mind I planned to visit as many of the caribbean islands as possible, get a feel for them, and then begin spending vacation time on the ones we really liked best.
Thirteen years and some fifteen cruises later and the only thing we've done that approaches that was a week spent at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica for our 10th anniversary.
This coming October, (hurricanes permitting) we will finally stay on an island we discovered on a cruise, one that we've sworn, every time we set foot on her, to come back and visit for more of an extended visit - St. John in the US Virgin Islands!
