Where I stayed
Beachcomber was definatly my favourite island! As we approached it looked like paradise! Golden sands and crystal clear waters! We were welcomed with a fruity drink which the boys decided was lacking something (namely vodka) the bar&eatery was right on the beach, so much so that there were no doors or floors just sand and decking :) perfect! Even the dance floor was sand, it was quite hard to dance on, but funny to watch other drunk people try! The sleeping dorm was split into male and female so i was seperate from the boys here but i met some really nice girls, one of which lived in sydney, just up the road from my hostel! and was studying travel journalism so we really hit it off! She was from New york and was travelling back there from fiji but returning to sydney at the end of august so we are going to meet up! She hit it off with Carlos, dont really blame her ;P
Anyway....
We spent the day sunbathing and drinking, me - water and fruit juice, the boys - beer and cocktails! I had to pace myself! One of the boys fell asleep in the sun so we were oh so kind to draw a smiley face in suncream on his back! It worked! he was stuck with a white smiley face for the rest of his trip! haha! The resort was quite busy and it was so much fun to drink and dance on the beach! The food was an all inclusive buffet! it was delicious! yumyum!
The next day we all went on a seasafari with suzanna, the girl from NY. The boat took us to a local island where the natives lived and worked, it was such a humbling experience, the village was so poor. We visited a school too and took part in a traditional fijian Kava ceremony (kava is a fijian drink made from tree roots, it makes you relaxed but tastes like dirty dish water!) I bought some braclets from the village shell market too. On the seasafari we also visited the island where castaway with Tom Hanks was filmed. It was such a beautiful island, it was uninhabited and we ate coconuts fresh from the trees! It was such an experience!
That night we all sat in the hot tub and drank a special cocktail mix fondly named sparrow juice (don't ask) The bar had a happy hour which didnt really make much difference to the price of drinks but had the slogan "the more you drink the more you save" so for the whole trip we applyed this to, "the more you spend the more you save" and boy did we save! :)
Back on Board the Boat Boys!!! Next stop Manta Ray island....
