This time we were really heading to Mansfield. We got there after the museum had closed but we had visited a few years ago so knew what was there. If you're even near Mansfield, I strongly suggest a visit. This is the site with the most original pieces from Ingalls’ family. It is well kept up and has unique details about Laura’s life after the prairie as a grown woman, professional columnist, and mother to Rose Wilder Lane.  We still had a photo opp before moving on; our Laura Ingalls trek complete, sigh.

At this point we were just focusing on driving East, aiming to get to Cincinnati sometime on Thursday to spend the afternoon with my aunt, uncle, and cousin.  We had dinner at our first Steak’n’Shake, which was quite tasty and also picked up some pie at "A Slice of Pie," in Rolla, Missouri.  Remarkably, we got to our hotel just outside St. Louis shortly before midnight and we’re planning to get an early start tomorrow.

Vern Crawford on

Howdy Sarah (and Laurel),

I wish I could have been with you guys on such a great journey.

You are so lucky to be able to experience the joys of exploring our beautiful country on a non-rigid, but purposeful journey . Your mom has shared with you my favorite way of taking a road trip, in a spirit of adventure and spontaneity.

And thank you so very much for sharing your journey with all of us. Following along with you is the next best thing to actually being there with you. Your writing is great, creating your experience, and painting mental imagery satisfying for your arm-chair readers. Well, perhaps I would be more satisfied if I could actually taste the many great meals and PIES sampled along the way!

Hugs,
Opa
