We were up bright and early this morning to join the Whale Watching Boat Tour. We went with the Princess Monterey boat, and were very pleased to find that it is a HUGE boat, the largest one running these tours, and there were not very many people on the tour, only about 40-50 people. It was great as everyone could move around and no one had to jostle for a good spot.

Heading out towards Monterey Canyon, Azrael spotted what could have been whales. Unfortunately, as the captain had no confirmed whale sightings for the morning, he decided to drive towards where dolphins had been sighted.

OK... In Monterey Canyon.... when they say dolphin sightings, it means tons and tons, hundreds!!! Not a measly one or two but totally surrounding the boat. We saw common dolphins and Risso dolphins and really fast swimming whale dolphins whose name sounded like "Dallas Portsmouth" but is actually Northern Right Whale Dolphins

It was really cool seeing them swim around, that it makes up for the lack of whales... for me at least. I am sure Azrael is still very disappointed not to have seen whales. It is currently the season for Blue and Humpback whales migrating, and it seems that this boat tour company have seen these whales every day this week, except today!!! We could have gone out again at 1.30pm, but we weren't really up for it, so we just have to be content with what we did get!
