It was a beautiful cloudless day as we drove through the Uzbek desert. Passing through Nurota for lunch and a brief hike up the ancient fortress of Alexander the Great. Close to the yurt camp we detoured again, this time to Aydar Lake. The water was warm and amazingly clear, so I took the time to dip my feet and walk up and down the beach, hearing the sound of ducks in the distance.
Once arriving at the yurt camp, I was treated to a bowl of borscht, which, while delicious, worried me once seeing the kitchen it was cooked in. This proved to be an important lesson, never look in the kitchen.
A small tour group from Italy joined the camp, and as night fell, so did the temperature. Most of the Italians were too sick to eat the wonderful pilaf dinner provided, so there was only a handful remaining to enjoy dutar music by the fire underneath a beautiful starry sky.
