The electric glow of the computer screen lit up the small room.  Sitting alone, browsing the best flights, or perhaps i should say, the cheapest flights.  A slight feeling of nostalgia came over me and the feeling of deja vu, as i had been in this place before, yet never so close. It was 1996 when i first heard of the country of Kazakhstan, courtesy Harrison Ford's Air Force One.
I have always been the type to root for the Soviets in film.  The soundtrack for Red October defined my childhood and the 1999 World Junior Hockey Championships was the joy of hockey joys when Kazakhstan beat Canada.
The intrigue grew over the years, and the flight path as well.  In what had started as a return trip to Israel via Norway, was now a venture to Kiev and Chernobyl then across to central Asia.  The trip was easily fifteen years in the making and the thought that i was actually now paying for a flight to take me there brought back a feeling of youthfulness.
Lufthansa seemed to be the best bet, and Uzbekistan Airways would provide the needed feeling of danger i was wanting.
Sitting back in the chair, reflecting on the reality of the confirmation number in front of me, i thought about the fact that my work still had not approved my time off and my Russian language skills was in sore need of an overhaul.
One thing for sure, I was finally on my way...eight weeks to go.
