Hello there from Wellington!
Today was a lucky day! We spent the day in Wellington, where it was windy, but sunny, and we did a lot of fun things. We went to the museum, did bungy jumping, rode a four wheel bicycle around the harbor and the Oriental Beach, and hiked ALLLLLLLL of the way to the top of Mt. Victoria, which is very far!
First, we went back to Te Papa, the National Museum, to see a few things we missed. They have a very cool interactive exhibit where you create your own wheel of photos, with real pictures or videos of yourself and your family, plus other pictures, and music. It is kind of like a giant IPhone. Then you zoom them across to a giant screen, where you use a laser flashlight to move them around and make cool art. It was really fun and once you got the hang of it, pretty easy to do.
After this, we went to make our own birds, a cool computer exhibit, then we made our own giant squids, which you can see if you go to the Te Papa website. Mine was called Blue and Lu's was Beauty Squid. We watched a 3D movie about squids, walked through the outdoor bush forest and caves, then went to the Blood, Earth, and Fire exhibit. It was cool, and we watched a movie about people from New Zealand. One guy jumps off huge mountain cliffs, then waits til the last minute to pull a parachute. Crazy!!! But fun to watch.
On the way out, Lu accidentally got her hand stuck in the elevator, but luckily it was okay.
We went out of the museum and I got to bungy jump (sort of!) on a trampoline, and did lots of flips. Then we watched some kids jump into the freezing cold harbour! On the walk down to the beach, we decided to rent a four wheel bicycle, and rode it up and down the waterfront. Wellington reminds me of Cape Town a little bit. There are lots of mountains and ocean and a cool waterfront. I saw lots of kids on skateboards and scooters and I wish I had one to ride here!
After the bike ride, we decided to hike up to the Mt. Victoria lookout. It was pretty tough and we walked for about an hour and a half up the mountain, mostly on trails. We had to crawl for part of the last bit of it. But the few from the top was amazing. There was a Maori pole and a cool canyon that they used to use to tell time, like the Noon Day gun in Cape Town. And the reason it was especially lucky is that I found a four leaf clover!!!!
I have never found one before, but Ginny says she finds them all the time and together we found four! That must be extra good luck! I am going to save mine, that's for sure.
It was a really fun day and I wish we had more time in Wellington. I really like it a lot! Tonight, though, we are all very tired and Lu even fell asleep standing up!!!! So, good night!
