Day 22: 12 hour train trip to hue. worst experience ever. the old vietnamese women sitting behind tim and i kept on sticking their crusty feet near our faces so we had to use a pen to poke at them to stop. gross. it had so many bugs. infact there was a whole fiasco where katie and skye woke up the whole train (at 1am) because of the bugs. Old man in front of us started smoking even thought it was banned. It was so not worth catching the train. Planes all the way!
Day 23: after a 13 hour train trip we arrived in hue about 1pm discovered that I had a huge bruise on my leg from crouching in my seat. After we all bathed we all went to eat since we were all hungry after our long train journey. at some place recommended by our hotel because they served western food. I ordered a chicken burger with fries but I received a chicken-beef burger that was way undercooked along with a soggy bun. I literally give that burger 0 out of ten. worst restaurant ever.
Day 24: went on day tour in Hue, the ancient city. Took a mini bus to meet up with our tour group. Had to wait 20 minutes for the bus to arrive then we walked to the Old Citadel which is the king's palace during the Nguyen Dynasty. A lot of these places were destroyed during the war and had to be rebuilt. Garden house village which is the most beautiful Mandarin house in Hue.. mandarin’s are the kings advisors. It was simply a house that had a garden. Went to Thien Mu Pagoda, famous because it holds the car that the monk drove set himself on fire in 1963 in protest for budhism. Had a subpar buffet lunch but that was expected. Minh mang tomb which had very nice gardens but was severly destroyed by the war. At this point, we were very much left in the dark after noone cared to tell us that we were changing tour groups, a bunch of us were standing around and looking at our dumb bus driver sit around flirting with the local banana sellers for about 5 minutes he even saw us looking but continued doing his thing. We seriously thought he had been drinking but then he finally told us the truth. No bloody curtesy. Khai dinh a very flamboyant tomb for the emperor of the early 1900 who was heavily influenced by the French, this was the highlight of the day. It had beautiful architecture, and every inch of the inside was decorated with colorful ceramics and paintings. No photos allowed because camera flash ruins the artifacts. Tu duc which his tombn was still locked away from the public when we peaked through the fence all we say was grass. Were meant to go to a village but only went ot the shop. There are a lot of dodoes on the road. Plane was delayed for 1 hour but it was a rather pleasant flight to Hanoi. Arrived at our hotel at 1am and was then told that three of us had to share a double bed as one room wasn’t ready. was really annoyed but couldn't do anything about it.
