We were taken into the bar, and shown the menu....the first drink, the cheapest drink, a beer was £18!!! After that they'd be £4....OUCH! Still, we didn't pay to go in, so it was a paying in ticket really.
At first there were some very pretty girls doing dancing, round poles, on the stage, entirely naked, and entirly skinny
It started with ribbons, ping pong balls and blowing candles out using a sort of blowgun, then went to needles and razor blades....Then Goldfish???!!!!!! Baby turtles....And a budgerigar!!! Seriously! I think the RSPCA ought to be called in. I have never seen (or even imagined) anything like it. Quite shocking.
There is one very drunk girl, with her boyfriend just grabbing the girls, kissing them and stuffing money in their thongs and attracting a lot of attention, Scott went off for a wander and I got chatting to a couple of Australian girls, one there with her boyfriend, and the other alone and gay and we all went off to another bar together as a 5, and a nighclub. Later on the three people we met went 'home together' if you know what I mean, whilst me and Scott returned a little worse for drink at about 2am as we have a tour tomorrow of James Bond Island.
As we walked about Bangla road it is just so apparent how much sex tourism there is, and whilst it varies from mildly entertaining - seeing all the pretty slim girls half naked dancing round poles on bars, all in full view of the street, to the outright degrading - older women who were probably the ones up those poles 20 years ago, pulling various objects from a certain place, with excessively drunken farang falling over everything, being sick and fighting, and men of various ages walking around holding hands with pretty young Thai girls they will have bought for the night....(take a breath)..
Phuket is 'fun', it has starbucks, mcdonalds, boots, shopping complexes, bars galore, a beach, sun, sand, sex on offer like it's coffee, gogo girls, para sailing, shopping, eating, anything you want...it's also expensive and not the real Thailand at all, it has none of the charm of Chiang Mai, the only other place I've been in Thailand, and it isn't the sort of place I'd typically go on holiday to, but it IS different and I suppose that is the point.
