08:31 We were woken at 2am by knocking, this was an hour earlier than expected but we went out and got on a pretty crappy bus with all the seat foam missing and ripped leather. It rather appeared as if a wild animal had been shut in, gone into a rage and savaged all the soft furnishings.
The drive to the bus swap over point was an hour and half just below bromo.

Paid again! 90,000 for both plus 25 each entrance fee, tried to explain we paid donnies friend baggio, but he knew nothing about it. Fuming and glad we didnt pay him the whole amount like he originally asked, we got in the jeep which then drove us up a pretty steep hill go the drop off point.
Walk for half an hour in dark up last bit
Watch the sunrise and volcano steaming, stunning views also quite cold.
Back down with jeep to crater
Area looks like the moon and there's v fine sand like water.
Got horse up to steps at crater
Climbed final steps to crater edge which I only thin, but there is a huge hole where steam emerges, the hole looks like in star wars!
Back down to bus and then to nearby hotel for breakfast at 8.30.

As we drove back the hills outside were patterned with lines of crops. Not so much rice fields now, but corn and things that look like cabbages, flowers, and all manner of things I really can't put a name to. We briefly stopped to take a picture of a water fall, but this green was a distant contrast to the noon like surfaces we found round the flat crater around bromo.
11:41 Got the train to Surabaya first, 100km away. Only economy class this time.
14:24 Economy class was an experience, the train was packed full and that includes the entryway. I sat on my rucksack on the floor next to a family of mostly women who then kept giving me food! They were quite sweet really, and everyone on the train seemed curious about the 2 foreigners on board. Frequently people would pass through the masses offering nasi goreng (fried rice), satay, sweet things, drinks and even random things like hair bobbled which would be thrown on each seat and then I you wanted it you'd pay but if you didn't you'd give them back
21:00 We got off at Surabaya and bought new tickets from there to Yogyakarta, first class again, for only 90,000 (5.80) for a 400km/ 5 hour train ride away! I'm appalled at how much our train tickets cost when you turn up at the counter, you can get a return ticket from Manchester to London for as little as 44 if you book at least 4 weeks in advance, but turn up on the day and that same ticket is 180!! But in all the other places I've been on a train, it's the same price regardless I think, or at least it's a realistic price. Just why DOES the price have to be so much on arrival?

Once we arrived at Yogyakarta at about 8,30 we were both knackered, we'd been up since 2am, and all we wanted was to fall into bed.

I'd sussed out from my lonely planet where the cheap homestay area was, just south of the bus station, so we headed there. The first hotel we came across we asked in and it was 130,000. Hmm, so we spent 70,000 at the last place and this isn't Bali anymore, probably a bit much, so we walked down the gang (alley) which was lined with guesthouses. We asked in a few and looked at their small dirty rooms, and they too were asking outrageous prices like 140,000! I was expecting something between 50 and 90, but no that much. Infuriated and extremely tired, we returned go the hotel we started at as that was actually cheaper. Our room had 2 single beds pushed up against each other, owner went into the bathroom and started sloshing water about with the door shut (??) and we sat down in a room we were both unimpressed with. I had a shower and managed to wash all the fine Bromo dust off me which had got everywhere! Then at 9 we turned the light off and I pretty much passed out immediately.

Best: the sunrise at Bromo
Worst: the moments of being pissed off
Beautiful: sunrise from the top

You may have had a bit of a an early start and a bumpy ride, but once again you have discovered an amazingly wonderful piece of the world and taken the most fabulous pictures!
I think the panorama will have to be made into a wall poster, its brilliant.
Looking forward to your pics of Borobudur.
