09:36 Breakfast. You'd have thought this would be a simple affair. Coffee, bread and egg. But why is it so difficult? Coffee with milk? First she brought a can of something, then orange fermented yoghurt. Tri then went running off to the shop to buy milk.
Next the baguette and egg arrived, the utensils holder holds chopsticks, forks, spoons and toothpicks. No knives. Do you suppose they considered how I might open my bread? Perhaps I might prise it open with spoons?

14:11 The roads this morning were painful and hard work. The last time I experienced such shitty roads was in Kenya. Apparently the responsibility of the bits of roads lies with local councils rather than the government as a whole. My bum was sore and my arms tired from trying to prop myself up, they're the sorts of roads where you just want to walk.
The views were great but the experience marred by the discomfort. Up to now the roads haven't been all that bad.

We stopped or lunch just now. I asked what was on offer. Chicken and rice, or tofu or some other vaguely suspect things. I looked at it and decided to pass. My 2 egg and bread baguettes will have to keep my going until Da Lat where I'm sure there will b something more appetising. They didn't even have any cold drinks. Bit of a miserable affair sadly. And there is the painful wail of singing and deep thumping of music as i can only assume that karaoke is going on downstairs...at 2pm. It really is an awful strangulated noise.
And all this with a Christmas tree in the corner, silver bells and Christmas lights hanging up, and Merry Christmas painted on the wall. Why would you paint that on the wall? It occurs for about 20 days of a year, and this is a 2/3rds Buddhist country.

I was in quite high spirits this morning before we left. Now I just feel a bit sour and irritable. Probably because the most basic of things-a cold drink is inaccessible. My friend commented the other day (not on here) that the most difficult thing would be eating. Well it sure is. But thank god the invention of bread and laughing cow cheese made it here as it is possible to find if you look hard enough and are desperate enough. Mind you, if I'm desperate enough I'll eat the chicken and rice. It's just dull dull food that I find I can't be bothered to eat more than any other reason.

16:36 I feel so much better. I've come to the v cafe in da Lat. Ive got chicken, chips and salad with a lovely dressing and I've already seen lemon meringue pie and chocolate cake, one of which I fully intend to devour. All with Dian Krall playing in the background giving this a comforting atmosphere. I can breathe a happy sigh.

It's a fantastic temperature here as well, about 22-26 degrees. I looked up the temps for Nha trang and it's due to be 39 in a few days. I might just stay up here in the hills. Global warming- great for England, we get warmer summers! Crap for hot countries, they just get stupidly hot!

22:00 Having spent several hours in the V cafe I was able to have a flawless hour long chat with my sister and also my mum, which was great. I'd have called some other of you guys but you were at work! Hopefully over the weekend I'll have some decent connection and be able to call.

When I got back to the hotel I'd told Tri that I'd help him make a website, but that I was not going to so it for him. I pulled up a website that makes it quite simple, you drag elements around etc to build it. I started it off then told Tri he needed to the content. I know he has an email address so I assumed some level of computer knowledge. Dear old Tri struggled with the concept of the mouse, pointing at things, clicking in things, highlighting, even the backspace and making a capital letter. So as you may imagine, it was slow going, but I admired his determination because he wanted to do it. I did get a little frustrated about 10pm, but only really because I was so tired by this point. We'll try and do some more today I think.
