Where I stayed
Hanoi Rendezvous Hotel
I struggled back to bed hoping that was the end of it, that maybe it was something I ate, and now that it had been violently ejected I could attempt to get some sleep. I curled up in the corner of my bed, trying to brace myself from the constant, unrelenting sway the carriage made, throwing me side to side to side. I didn't sleep, I just waited until the impending 4am wake up call, for out 4.30 arrival.
As we pulled into the station I had that feeling all over again, that horrible panic that races through your brain, the adrenalin as you realise that you have to get to the bathroom quick. As we'd already stopped I hoped that they hadn't locked the door. Fortunately they hadn't, so once again, my stomach lurched and nothing came out, and despite nothing being there, the urge continued. I just wanted to cry.
Having sorted myself out with more water and splashing my face, I got off the train and was accosted by people asking if I wanted a taxi. All I wanted to do was get to the waiting room and sit still for a few minutes. I was surprised and incredibly relieved to see one of the hotel staff holding a piece of paper with my name on. He'd come to collect me. I was so pleased that I wasn't going to have to sort myself out.
I got back to the hotel, got my room key and started a slow ascent up the 6 flights of stairs to my room. I was the only one there, and fell into bed, exhausted, shaking, miserable. Having an 'I want my mum' moment, and it being just before 5am with me (11pm UK) I called my mum and felt comforted to hear her voice and kind words. Then I went to sleep.
At 7am, the urge overcame me again, and I ran down to the bathroom. Again, nothing. Why is this happening I wondered. Back to bed again and I slept sporadically until about 1 when I was woken by one of the staff fixing a locker. I felt so lousy, I just lay in bed, spaced out and tired, my legs feeling heavy, my stomach muscles aching from the force I'd put upon them. I knew I wasn't strong enough to take myself downstairs to get any food and I asked the guy to bring me a can of coke and some dry toast.
It's 4pm now, I've watched tv, caught up my blog, drunk the coke and eaten one piece of toast. Gladly it has all stayed down, so I hope with a good nights rest I will feel better and stronger tomorrow. My biggest concern being my heavy legs - not a good sign, but understandable in the circumstances. Rest is all I need, and time is what I have now that my visa has been extended.
I tried calling NHS direct to seek advice, but was told, in typical UK style that they wouldn't offer any advice as they weren't insured to. Really, all I wanted was a bit of advice and yet I couldn't get a thing out of her at all. Thanks NHS for your support on that one.
No pictures today as you can imagine, I've been in bed.
Best: eating and NOT being sick
Worst: guess what....being sick
