08:37 Another not particularly brilliant sleep and awake at 6. Today is when I go to Halong Bay for 3 days. I had fruit and pancakes for breakfast.
I got on a partially empty bus (2 seats on one side and 1 on the other) and settled down.
I soon discovered a squashed banana in the bottom of my bag that had caked several of my items in mush. Yuck. I had enough room to get everything out of that one compartment of my day sack, and with my emergency toilet tissue started to scrape out the gunk and clean up my stuff.
The bus squashed its way down the sidestreets picking up more and more tourists and soon our bus was full and we were sitting 4 across. As I'm sitting on the wheel arch I have no foot well and my knees are up near my chin practically.

09:07 It's amazing how many vegetarians I've encountered. There's at least one on every trip which seems higher than average.

09:41 Interesting things I've seen on my journey.

Four on a bike,
Babies on the bike
Massive Canon factory
Bike passenger reading a magazine
Graves in fields
The passenger driving the bike whilst the front seat person had their hands over their eyes like they were watching a horror movie!

18:56 It's been a beautiful day. Getting on the boat at Halong City was a little chaotic with millions of tourists etc, but once on board and heading out to the bay it was much better. I was surprised at how far out the famous area is from the mainland. It was really overcast when we left and went into the caves and kayaking, but around 5.30 it started to break and we had an incredible sunset.

18:59 Watching the sunset was another of those special moments I wish I could have shared with someone special. So the pics and my words will have to allow me to share with you my friends.

22:00 We had a lovely dinner and a had a really nice cocktail called a grasshopper with creme de menthe, creme de cacao and cream in it. It was like having an after eight! I sat with Maxim the Russian (who I also shared a room with) and Beatrice and Amanda the Swedish girls. They drank a lot and they sang karaoke after we'd spent several hours chatting and slowly drinking cocktails. As you can imagine I'm not a karaoke girl, unless very drunk, which was not this occasion.

Best: being on the boat is really cool

Worst: I had an awful seat for 4 hours on the trip over

Beautiful: sunset in Halong Bay- this will be in my top 5 moments for sure by the end of the trip.
