10:39 Not only is leg sore, am a bit achy in arm & shoulders coz of dog sledding.
Breakfast pancakes gorgeous - called aladi
Arrival of 10 Aussies on their way thru from Mongolia. One of their group fell off a camel and ended up in hospital. Beware of camels

Swapped some pounds and dollars for Mongolian money then headed to ski slopes. I didn't ski coz leg sore but helped try to teach Anita to ski, it's quite hard to teach! Skiing was only 1000 roubles including equipment and lift pass so brilliant value. We got picked up by the chalet owner at 3 and as we drove by the lake steve wanted to get out and get in. This is one crazy Aussie! Sure enough she drove us down to the lake and we got out and found a suitable spot where the ice wasn't too thick and the lake not deep. Steve stripped to his 'jocks' and jumped into the thin ice. It was only waist height but he dipped right down under at least twice. We asked how it felt. Alright apparently. I might have screamed I'm jumping in and need to be rescued because it's so cold. He cracked the ice up to a point which wouldn't give and climbed out. His skin was bright red and he said it felt like burning. He dried himself on his tshirt and put his clothes on. We went straight back to the chalet and they jumped in hot showers whilst I had coffee in the dining room and caught up on blogging.

We left at 4 to head back to Irkutsk for a late lunch. Our train isn't until 950 so we have some time to kill. Costa suggested a walk but I want to rest it an let it get better so I can do everything in Mongolia.

i spent a few hours in the hotel updating this, and resting my leg, and at 8.45...now, we're back on the train to go to Mongolia.

16:51 Best thing: watching steve jump in lake

Worst thing: not being able to ski coz I've strained my leg muscle

Kit I'm most impressed with:
Arcteryx jacket. Has kept me toasty warm in coldest temps I've ever experienced
Rohan cool silver T shirts. Keep me warm or cool when I need and don't smell at all!
Sorel snow boots. Also kept my feet very warm and very dry when everyone else's feet were cold in walking boots.
New Russian hat. Furry and warm for poor ears!

Not impressed with.
The other 2 technical tshirts I got which are also meant to be smellproof. Theyre not brilliant in that respect.
Dare to be gloves. My fingers got pretty cold when snow mobiling and dog sledding despite my merino wool liners.

What am I missing?
Mums home cooking. (to be fair I only get that when I go to theirs, but I won't get any this year :( )
And my feather duvet

What am I not missing?
My xbox at the mo and erm... Work (I've never not worked and like I said, I never knew life could be this much fun!)

Most beautiful thing: still the view across the frozen lake to the massive snowy mountains in the distance. A photo cannot portray the beauty.
17:12 Irkutsk looks dirty and there are factories spewing out black smoke.

Work misses you Zoe! Having a nightmare with terminal services and interop which is beating the combined brains of Wid and Brabander.
Can't believe I know someone who's going to Irkutsk it's like you're living out life on a Risk board.. Keep having fun!

Looks like your having the time of your Life Zoe! Enjoy every second of it and make the most of every opportunity you can. Wish I was there to see it with you, looks amazing. Loved the photos of the sunsets and the one through the ice.
Take care, Cal. X.
