We're getting closer now, I can't believe I only have 3 more days at work. It was my birthday yesterday (and my last pay day!! EEEEK!!) so I went out for dinner with the Newcastle team and some of the Manchester guys and we had a grand old time. My work leaving drinks are this friday night and all my friends are over on Saturday. So I have plenty of social gatherings coming my way.

Last Friday my lovely sister Bunny trekked for over an hour across to the East side of London to the Russian Visa place with all my documents. I then got several phone calls as we established that I hadn't filled in the visa correctly owing to the fact that I hadn't filled in the address of my 2 universitys, or the name and phone number of my last 2 bosses. Given that these events happened between 5 and 13 years ago I didn't feel this information was particularly relevant, after all, were they going to call and check? It seems that I wasn't the only person there who hadn't completed it correctly, plenty of other people were busy adjusting their applications as well!
After much negotiating with the lady behind the window Bun was told it would need to be filled out again and signed by me. This was not going to be easy as I was up in Manchester. So we huffed and puffed on the phone, and Bun filled out a whole new form online with the correct information and forged my signature, before going back to the window and handing it in. It was accepted. When I asked Bun if there was any fuss, she said "No, she chose not to talk about it" I thought good old girl, thank god for common sense and leniency! I am therefore expecting my passport and visa back within the next 7 days or so. Finally the visas for the first ccouple of months will be sorted! Hurrah!

I also got hold of some foregin currency today, a few Roubles, Chinese Yuan and Japanese Yen. The Japanese appear to have an overinflated currency and therefore I have 100 worth which equates to 12000 Yen. Some mental agility will be required over the next few months to do some conversions. Between that and the odd game of sudoku it might be my only mental agility. I hope my brain doesn't melt!

So I feel like I'm nearly ready to go. I packed my rucksack over the weekend and there was room to spare and it wasn't too heavy.

A lot of people are asking if I'm nervous. I'm not, well not yet at least. Maybe it will hit me nearer the time, but I'm so busy and excited that it's not an emotion I have time for right now.
