As our trip drew to an end we drove from Chobe to Nata...the Makgadikgadi Pans were filled with water and completely unpassable. The tour usually stays at Nata Lodge, but unfortunately it was destroyed by fire last year. Instead we pulled up at what was essentially a motel truck stop...the Northgate Lodge. Upon further inspection however, it proved to have very sweet rooms and a lovely pool. For all intents and purposes our trip was drawing to a close.
We had a final night in South Africa - near the Limpopo River - at a lovely safari lodge. The kilometers had multiplied over the weeks and as we pulled up to the Union Buildings in Pretoria we added it all up. The ten of us and our trusty truck had clocked 7200+ kms; visited four countries, several national parks, and a raft of wonderful lodges, chalets and guest farms. We bid farewell to some of our companions in Pretoria and then pulled up at the Jo'burg airport - a bit dusty, but so enriched and thrilled to have had the opportunity to get to know a bit of the wonder that is Africa
