Where I stayed
With The Girls
Vladka is quite possibly the friendliest and funniest person I've met. Her hilarity is rivaled only by her sister Erica who lives with her. They have a fantastic dynamic worthy of a sitcom. 'The Girls' as ill hereforth call them, because it fits them better than you can imagine, have about a million things planned for me and we are all sorry I can't stay longer. I pretty much dropped my jaw when they showed me 'my apartment' that i'd be staying in connected to her house
After a great dinner at home the girls and I ventured into downtown Ljubljana. The city is centered around a big castle built on Ljubljana's tallest hill. We took a cool little tram to the top and Erica gave me a visual tour of the city from the castle walls. From the castle to the surrounding river makes up what is called the 'old city.' It is magnificient. The whole old city is closed to traffic which i've come to realize is brilliant. The buildings are illuminated by spotlights and the many bridges into the old city have green underglow. Ljubljana exudes a sort of comfort and safety that i've never felt so quickly anywhere else and I look foward to experiencing more of it.
The girls and I drove 50Km to Postojnska which houses the largest salt caves in Europe. Pictures were forbidden but I snuck a few. I hopped on a little train that brings you 10Km into the cave where we met a tour guide and walked around. Massive Stalagmites and Stalagtites (spelling?) covered the ceilings and floors of the amazing large underground open areas. It was probably one of the coolest things I saw on this Trip
We then drove to Lipicia which is a town famous for its trained horses. We took a tour of the stables and saw a show. Equestrian isn't really my thing but even I could appreciate the amazing things they trained those horses to do and the beasts themselves were quite elegant and beautiful as well.
