It is now a day and a half before I have to be at the airport for my flight to San Francisco. It is starting to hit me that I won't be seeing my friends and family for a year. It's kind of crazy in a way...ok, several ways. For one, I like having a comfort zone...knowing where I will be going and what will be happening. I like to know the details and schedules. I also like to have someone I know going with me to places, especially out of the country. Ok, I usually will only go out if someone goes with me. Pretty bad...I know.
For this trip, I don't know all the details and know some of the schedule. EPIK likes to leave everyone in the dark, especially until last minute. I won't know what town, age level or where I'll live until pretty much the last day of orientation. I will also really be going by myself. I have some friends that will be going, but they are arriving on a different day and will be going to a different province. I am making some friends in a group on Facebook, so hopefully that will help a bit. So this shall be interesting. :)
So why am I doing this if it is so out of my comfort zone? Well, several. I love traveling and this is one way to do it. Korea is also a unique culture that I haven't been exposed to before I started this journey (Began to look into this September 2008). I also want to open my mind to what is out there; to see and experience other cultures. I have a lot of growing to do and one way to do that is to throw myself into a culture that does not speak English, has other customs and is far from home.
On another note: I received my contract, NOA (Notice of Appointment) and visa a week ago, so that's exciting. I have also booked a tour for San Francisco. I will be touring Muir Woods and Sausalito Tour plus Bay Cruise. I'm looking forward to it. :D
I have spent the last two weeks seeing my family and friends and I want you all to know I will miss you all. I also love you guys and wish you the best while I am away (Just when I'm away. You can be miserable when I come back ...just kidding! I always wish the best for you all!).
EDIT!
Here are some pictures from my last few days at home
